My kids’ paternal grandmother passed away Friday and this week in review is dedicated to her memory. Initially Pilar wasn’t sure about me. She had hoped her only son would marry someone of their ethnic background (Cuban immigrants), religion (Catholic) and probably socioenomic background (they had been wealthy pre-Castro).
Over the years we got to know each other better and we both loved the same people (her son and grandsons). Divorce didn’t stop me from considering her family and we’ve kept in touch and I last saw her this Spring. Grandma Pilar lived a long life with the usual joys and sadness. She leaves behind her two children, two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren among many others who loved her and are celebrating her life.
