This is a big weekend in our household. Americans are celebrating 234 years of independence today with parades, fireworks and picnics.
But first we celebrated my grandson turning one year old yesterday. He made it extra special by walking for the first time.
Happy Birthday to both.

Wealth Pilgrim examines whether a 30 versus 15 year mortageis better for first time homebuyers. I say it depends on where you live. In California, very few would be able to swing a 15 year mortgage for their first home.
More than one person told me about the article that inspired Dr. Dean to jump into the new versus used debate. I disagree with him on used homes. There are many advantages to not buying new.
Personal Dividends offers home remedies for sunburn. There’s even the one we used growing up in the list.
I could have used this trip from Family Balance Sheet on how to not dry out grilled chicken like the sahara a long time ago. It’s never too late to learn!
Money Reasons reminds me of Mr. Boomer with his frugal tips to make broken things work. Well, except he’s not advocating rubber bands and duct tape.
Do you think our economic problems the past couple of years has changed people? Watson Inc. offers another reason for why debt is really decreasing.

I was ready to argue when I read the title of Miss Thrify’s post on not throwing away chipped mugs or cups. It’s about creating a new use for that cup.

That sounds fun. I’m just a cheapskate and like the fact that the window coverings and landscaping is already paid for and completed!
A very special belated birthday wish for your grandson! How exciting that he chose to take his first steps on the first anniversary of his birth. Sounds like you’ve got a real keeper on your hands!

Eileen, he sure is a keeper (even if he didn’t walk). I keep watching the video of him attacking his cake. What a sight!
Thanks for the mention!
Actually, for about a year, duct tape was all that was holding my lawnmower handle in place (later I had to buy a new one for $20). I also used a paper clip to make the throttle stick!
I subscribe to your husband’s school of thought on such matters though!
Now I can’t give my husband a hard time. There’s a reason duct tape is on the packing list of many a traveler.
A 15 yr mortg really is tough in California. However, even if one could afford a 15 yr, I’d rather do a 30 yr as it’s better for cash flow and rates are SO low right now. I can always pay off in 15 years if I wanted too.
