Travelzoo: It’s More than Travel

As you may have guessed, one of my methods for stretching the budget includes taking advantage of coupons, specials and promotions. And I’ll use them for whatever service or good my family consumes.

I’ll be blogging in the future about travel saving ideas but wanted to tell you about a website that is travel-focused but also offers entertainment venue specials which is Travelzoo.com.  They put out a weekly subscription email with 20 top finds.

The weekly top 20 email highlights great travel deals selected from a large number of websites.  These specials can go fast so if you see something you like make a decision quick or risk it being sold out!

This week’s top 20 for my metropolitan area included such non-travel deals as $8 San Diego Charger tickets, 40% discounted theater tickets to see Chicago on Broadway and $27 dinner cruise tickets in eight cities.

Mr. Boomer and I are Charger fans (well he’s a fan and I’m fanatical) and we jumped on the cheap game tickets. Yes, they were for preseason games, but we selected the last preseason game which will include the starters (with the exception of LaDainian Tomlinson) for most of the game. Yes, it was annoying that the service fee wasn’t included in the posted price, but we were able to get a pair of tickets that would normally retail for $148 for only $30 total and that includes the free Fedex delivery.

Being frugal or on a budget doesn’t mean not partaking in sporting events, live theater, movies or other entertainment options. What it does mean is being mindful of what is spent and getting the most bang for your buck.
