Week in Review: Thanksgiving Edition

This week I’ll be enjoying two separate Thanksgiving events.  First, Mr.  Boomer and I will have a wonderful meal with family here and then I travel to Kansas for a second Thanksgiving meal with my mom, stepdad, siblings and in-laws.

Although unemployment has hit family members in the past year, we’re blessed with addition of a grandson (who I refer to as the most adorable baby in the world) and good health of friends and family.  Blessings to you and your loved one!

Editor’s Picks

1. 4 Ways to Develop a Thankful Heart Before Thanksgiving.Craig @ Bible Money Matters teaches us the meaing behind Thanksgiving.  Think about what hardship the pilgrims had been through prior to the first Thanksgiving meal.   Yet, they still  gave thanks to God for the harvest and shared with their uninvited guests.

 2. What’s New at Swag Bucks: Some improvements, some dissapointments. If you haven’t heard about Swagbucks read this post from Cathy @ Chief Family Officer. I’ve recently started searching with Swagbucks at home and am accruing bucks. I’ll let you know if I build up enough to redeem for gift cards.

3. A Little Food Planning Goes a Long Way. Rigbee @ Million Dollar Journey talks about how to save money on food with planning. Mr. Boomer and I do pretty good, but sometimes fail to take into account meals for busy (or low energy) nights. It’s a work in progress!

4. Decorating Your Home on the Cheap. This caught my eye because after two plus years in our condo we still don’t have any pictures on the walls! Mrs. January in a guest post @ Mrs. Micah: Finance for a Freelance Life gives us five sources for inexpensive decorations. I think I’ve used most of these at one time or another.

5. Gift Cards – Pros and Cons. As Patrick @ Cash Money Life points out there are some downsides to gift cards, but sometimes the pros outweigh them. Luckily one of the negatives listed doesn’t apply in California — gift card expiration dates are not legal here.
