What is Your Personality Type?

by Kay Lynn

Personality tests can be helpful in figuring out your strengths and the best career to take advantage of them.  At the suggestion of Money Mamba, I took advantage of a free analysis.

After answering the 72 questions my personality type was identified as being ENFJ which is short for Extraverted, iNtuitive, Feeling and Judging.  Surprisingly, only2-5% of the population has this type according to Wikipedia.

Traits of ENFJ – Teachers

This personality type is classified as Teacher by some which doesn’t mean one should be a teacher, but rather serve as a mentor in some role.  Common traits are:

  • Charismatic
  • Have strong interpersonal skills
  • Draws conclusions quickly
  • Unusually sensitive to criticism
  • Intensively optimistic
  • Puts needs and desires of others above own
  • May avoid conflict at all costs to keep peace
  • Openly communicative, fun-loving and transparent
  • Excellent planners

Well known people who are thought to be of the same personality type are: Bill Clinton, Ronald Reagan, Abraham Lincoln and Barack Obama just among US presidents.  In other fields: Ross Perot, Dennis Hopper and Pete Sampras to name a few.

Careers suggested for this personality type include counseling, education, psychology, physician, social work, science, computer programming,  management, and politics.

My Analysis of Results

Nearly all of the traits sound like me with one exception.  I am not conflict avoidant (not that I seek it out).  I am able to proactively tell people information or opinions they don’t want to hear.  Otherwise, I have to say the shoe fits.

A personality test would be helpful to high school students trying to figure out what career to pursue.   Have you ever taken a personality test?  If yes, did it match you?

I usually match the test results because I think I may answer the questions to fit. Maybe, I just think I match the results. It would take a lot more questions to control the results! In addition, there would be reinforcing questions to determine a consistency of the responses. last maybe someone other than the participant should evaluate the results.

I actually got this same result! We are in the same 2%!

Don’t you just love these personality tests? I’m an INTJ, which I think describes me pretty well. It must be a pretty boring type, though. The only famous INTJs I can remember are Alan Greenspan and Ben Bernacke. Maybe I have a good shot at being a future Fed chairman? 😉

I am an ENFJ too! I am a bit sensitive to criticism. I avoid criticism when it is my BATNA (Best Alternative To a Negotiated Agreement). If fighting is not going to get me anywhere, I am not going to bother when I can obtain peace. Not that transparent, but the rest of it is spot on. I do not mind being a minority either!
